Atlanta Housing Authority goes green

As the Atlanta Housing Authority has replaced blighted projects with quality mixed-income neighborhoods, a major emphasis has been on supporting sustainable development.

An excellent example is in west Atlanta, where AHA and its development partners have redeveloped Perry Homes and adjacent lands. At the new West Highlands neighborhood, developer Steve Brock has built “The Green House,” which from the roof peak to the foundation showcases energy-saving and environmentally friendly features. WSB-TV sponsored a project featuring the various green additions to the home, which will be aired on “Prime Time Special.” The home will be auctioned in October, and all proceeds will go to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta.

On Aug. 22, supporters gathered for a tour a tour of “The Green House,” in the background of the photo. AHA employees and friends at the event included:

Front row: Keith Brown, Melinda Eubanks, Deborah Brown, AHA real estate Chief Operating Officer Joy Fitzgerald and Gwen Weddington.

Back: Kathleen Miller, James Talley, Amanda Rhein of the Atlanta Development Authority and City Council Member Caesar Mitchell.
